Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is a major non-neuronal microtubule-associated protein. It contains a domain similar to the microtubule-binding domains of neuronal MAP2 and MAPT/TAU. This protein promotes microtubule assembly and counteracts destabilization during interphase. Cyclin B interacts with MAP4, targeting CDC2 kinase to microtubules. Phosphorylation affects microtubule properties and cell cycle progression. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
