Target Information
The Golgi apparatus participates in glycosylation and transport of proteins and lipids in the secretory pathway, consisting of stacked cisternae (flattened membrane sacs). Interactions between the Golgi and microtubules are important for Golgi reorganization during mitosis. The GM130 protein (encoded by GOLGA2) is one of the golgins, a family of proteins localized to the Golgi, and is involved in stacking of Golgi cisternae and vesicular transport. Several alternatively spliced transcript variants have been described, though their full-length nature remains undetermined.
