OPRD1는 불안, 우울증, 통증 조절에 관여하는 오피오이드 수용체입니다. 기분 장애 및 약물 중독 치료에서 중요한 표적이며, 델타 및 카파 오피오이드 수용체는 헤테로다이머를 형성하여 시너지 작용을 합니다. OPRD1은 주로 뇌에서 발현되며, 대뇌 피질, 꼬리핵, 해마, 측좌핵, 피각에서 높은 발현을 보입니다. 소뇌, 시상하부, 흑질, 시상에서는 낮은 발현이 확인됩니다. 알츠하이머병 환자의 피각과 편도체, 파킨슨병 환자의 피각에서 OPRD1 발현이 감소된 것으로 보고되었습니다.
