Target Information
DNA-PK is a heterotrimeric, DNA-dependent protein kinase that initiates signaling cascades in response to DNA damage. It is an atypical kinase related to PI3 kinases and can be inhibited by small molecules targeting PI3 kinases. DNA-PK encodes a component of the mediator complex, a transcriptional coactivator complex required for the expression of most genes. The mediator complex interacts with transcriptional activators or nuclear receptors to induce gene expression by engaging RNA polymerase II and forming a pre-initiation complex. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified for DNA-PK.
