Target Information
Carbonic anhydrase III (CAIII) is a member of a multigene family encoding carbonic anhydrase isozymes. These metalloenzymes catalyze the reversible hydration of carbon dioxide and are differentially expressed in various cell types. The CA3 gene is expressed at high levels in skeletal muscle and at lower levels in cardiac and smooth muscle. Elevated CA3 levels have been observed in some carriers of Duchenne muscular dystrophy. The gene spans approximately 10.3 kb and contains seven exons and six introns.
