TFR2 유전자는 transferrin receptor-like 패밀리에 속하며, 단일 통과형(type II) 막단백질을 암호화합니다. 이 단백질은 transferrin 결합 철분의 세포 내 흡수를 매개하며, 해당 유전자의 돌연변이는 유전성 혈색소증 3형(hereditary hemochromatosis type III)과 관련이 있습니다. 다양한 스플라이싱 변이체가 보고되었으나, 모든 변이가 완전히 특성화된 것은 아닙니다.
