Target Information
PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen) is a chymotrypsin-like serine protease belonging to the kallikrein family, produced by the prostate epithelium and abundant in seminal fluid. PSA can be detected in the sera of patients with prostatic carcinoma and is predominantly complexed to alpha-1-antichymotrypsin (ACT). A higher proportion of PSA-ACT complex is observed in prostate cancer compared to benign prostatic hyperplasia. PSA is widely used to confirm prostatic acinar cell origin in primary and metastatic carcinoma and to distinguish it from non-prostatic carcinoma mimics.
