Product Specific Information
Description:
The OKT9 monoclonal antibody reacts with human CD71, a 170–180 kDa type II transmembrane protein. CD71 (transferrin receptor) exists as a homodimer on the cell surface and is essential for cellular growth. It is expressed by immature proliferating cells and at low levels on resting mature lymphocytes. Antigen or mitogen stimulation of T and B cells upregulates CD71 expression.

This OKT9 (OKT-9) antibody is reported for use in flow cytometric analysis.
Applications Tested:
Pre-titrated and tested by flow cytometric analysis of stimulated human peripheral blood mononuclear cells. Recommended use is 5 µL (0.06 µg) per test. A test is defined as the amount of antibody sufficient to stain a cell sample in 100 µL final volume. Cell number may range from 10⁵ to 10⁸ cells/test.

Target Information
Cellular uptake of iron occurs via receptor-mediated endocytosis of ligand-occupied transferrin receptor into specialized endosomes. Acidification leads to iron release, and the apotransferrin-receptor complex is recycled to the cell surface. The transferrin receptor is essential for erythrocyte and nervous system development. Serum transferrin receptor (sTfR) is used to detect erythropoietin (EPO) misuse and diagnose anemias associated with conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, pregnancy, irritable bowel syndrome, and HIV.
