Target Information
TSC2 (Tuberin, Tuberous sclerosis complex, TSC Complex Subunit 2)
TSC2 is implicated as a tumor suppressor and may function in vesicular transport, cell growth arrest, and transcription regulation mediated by steroid receptors.
It associates with hamartin (TSC1) in a cytosolic complex, possibly acting as a chaperone. Phosphorylation of tuberin on Ser939 and Thr1462 regulates its interaction with hamartin via the PI3K/Akt pathway.
TSC2 stimulates the intrinsic GTPase activity of RAP1A and RAB5, suggesting a role in growth regulation. Mutations in TSC2 are linked to diseases such as lymphangioleiomyomatosis and TSC2 angiomyolipoma.
Alternative splicing results in three different isoforms of TSC2.
