Target Information
PDGFRA is a cell surface receptor tyrosine kinase that binds members of the platelet-derived growth factor family. These growth factors act as mitogens for cells of mesenchymal origin. The receptor can form either homodimers or heterodimers (with PDGFR beta), depending on the growth factor bound. Studies in knockout mice indicate that PDGFRA is essential for kidney development, as heterozygous mice show defective kidney phenotypes.
