Target Information
The PCDHGA9 gene is part of the protocadherin gamma gene cluster located on chromosome 5. These clusters possess an immunoglobulin-like organization, suggesting a unique regulatory mechanism. The gamma cluster comprises 22 genes divided into three subfamilies (A, B, and C). Each variable region exon encodes extracellular domains with six cadherin ectodomains and a transmembrane region, followed by a constant cytoplasmic region shared among all cluster genes. These neural cadherin-like proteins are believed to play essential roles in cell-cell adhesion and neural connectivity in the brain. Alternative splicing occurs within the gamma cluster genes.
