Product Specific Information
PA1-7244 detects Salmonella and is polyvalent for Salmonella O & H antigens.
The antiserum is unabsorbed and may cross-react with related Enterobacteriaceae.
It has been successfully used in ELISA and immunofluorescence procedures.
Immunogen: mixture of S. enteriditis, S. typhimurium, and S. heidelburg.
Recommended short-term storage (less than 6 months): 2–8°C.
For long-term storage, aliquot and freeze at -20°C.
Target Information
The genus Salmonella belongs to the family Enterobacteriaceae.
It consists of Gram-negative bacilli that are facultative and motile with flagella.
Salmonellae possess three major surface antigens:
- H (flagellar antigen) – phase 1 and 2
- O (somatic antigen) – part of the LPS moiety
- Vi (capsular antigen) – referred to as K in other Enterobacteriaceae
They also contain LPS endotoxin typical of Gram-negative bacteria, composed of:
- O polysaccharide (O antigen)
- R core
- Lipid A (endotoxic inner component)
Endotoxins can evoke fever and activate complement, kinin, and clotting factors.
