Target Information
CAP-E and CAP-C (Chromosome Associated Protein-E & C) are members of the SMC (Structural Maintenance of Chromosome) family that form a heterodimeric complex required for mitotic chromosome condensation, ensuring proper segregation of genetic information during cell division.
The hCAP-C/hCAP-E complex, known as condensin, interacts with phosphorylated Histone H3 to mediate chromosome condensation.
Distinct distribution patterns of the two heterodimeric complexes in the interphase nucleus suggest independent behavior during the cell cycle, indicating their involvement in different aspects of mitotic chromosome organization in human cells.
