Target Information

Using SAGE (Serial Analysis of Gene Expression) technology, St. Croix et al. identified 46 genes with elevated expression in tumor-associated endothelium. Nine of these genes, named Tumor Endothelial Markers (TEMs, TEM1–9), are prominently expressed only in tumor endothelial cells and are absent or barely detectable in normal endothelial cells.
TEM7 (Tumor Endothelial Marker 7) transcripts are specifically expressed in the endothelium of colorectal, lung, pancreas, breast, and brain cancers, both primary and metastatic. Other family members (TEM1, 3, 4, 5, 8, and 9) show similar expression patterns in lung and brain tumors and liver metastasis.
These genes, differentially expressed during angiogenesis, provide valuable resources for basic and clinical studies of human angiogenesis.
