Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is a cytokine receptor belonging to the interleukin 1 receptor family. It binds IL1A, IL1B, and IL1R1/IL1RA, acting as a decoy receptor that inhibits ligand activity. Interleukin 4 (IL4) can antagonize interleukin 1 activity by inducing this receptor’s expression and release. This gene, along with three others, forms a cytokine receptor gene cluster on chromosome 2q12. Two alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been reported.
