Target Information
Isoform 1:
ATP-dependent RNA helicase required during spermatogenesis to repress transposable elements and prevent their mobilization, essential for germline integrity. Acts via the piRNA metabolic process forming complexes with piRNAs and Piwi proteins to repress transposons. Specifically binds to piRNA precursors and promotes generation of intermediate piRNA processing fragments loaded to Piwi proteins. Displays 5′–3′ RNA unwinding activity.
Isoform 2:
May act downstream of MEF2C during heart formation. Functions as a cardiac-specific suppressor of cardiomyocyte hypertrophy and cell cycle progression, potentially through regulation of CDKN1A.
