Follistatin은 난소 단백질로서 난포자극호르몬(FSH)의 분비를 특이적으로 억제합니다. 단일 FST 유전자는 FST317(317 aa) 및 FST344(344 aa)의 두 가지 이소폼을 암호화하며, 이는 전구체 mRNA의 대체 스플라이싱에 의해 생성됩니다.
37개의 후보 유전자를 대상으로 한 연구에서, 다낭성 난소 증후군(PCOS) 및 고안드로겐혈증과의 연관성이 Follistatin과 관련되어 있음이 보고되었습니다.
