Target Information
CAP-E and CAP-C (Chromosome Associated Protein-E & C) are SMC (Structural Maintenance of Chromosome) family members that form a heterodimeric complex required for mitotic chromosome condensation and proper segregation of genetic information during cell division.
hCAP-C/hCAP-E is a component of the condensin complex that interacts with phosphorylation of Histone H3, leading to mitotic chromosome condensation.
Distinct distribution patterns of the heterodimeric complexes in the interphase nucleus suggest independent behavior during the cell cycle, indicating involvement in different aspects of mitotic chromosome organization in human cells.
