Alpha Tubulin은 알파 및 베타 튜불린 소단위로 구성된 이형이합체의 일부입니다. 두 단백질은 약 55 kDa의 분자량을 가지며, 미세소관(microtubule)의 기본 구성 요소로 작용합니다. 미세소관은 대부분의 진핵세포에서 세포 구조 유지 및 물질 수송, 세포 분열 시 핵심적 역할을 담당합니다.
알파 및 베타 튜불린 유전자는 종 간에 높은 보존성을 가지며, 알파 튜불린 유전자는 마우스 및 랫의 Tuba1 유전자와 매우 유사합니다. 노던 블롯 분석 결과, 주로 형태학적으로 분화된 신경 세포에서 발현됩니다.
