Target Information
Rho-like GTPases are involved in various cellular processes, activated by GTP binding and inactivated by intrinsic GTPase activity. Guanine nucleotide exchange factors (GEFs) catalyze the release of GDP, accelerating GTPase activity.
The ARHGEF3 gene encodes a GEF that specifically activates RHOA and RHOB, which are implicated in bone cell biology. Genetic variations in ARHGEF3 are associated with bone mineral density (BMD) regulation and postmenopausal osteoporosis.
Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
