Product Specific Information

  • Tested in direct ELISA (use antibody at 2–4 µg/mL for coating).
  • For immunohistochemistry (PFA-fixed): incubate antibody for 30 minutes at room temperature.
  • Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires heating sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA (pH 9.0) for 45 minutes at 95°C, followed by cooling at room temperature for 20 minutes.

Target Information

Spectrin is an actin crosslinking and molecular scaffold protein that links the plasma membrane to the actin cytoskeleton. It functions in determining cell shape, organizing transmembrane proteins, and arranging organelles.
It forms tetramers composed of alpha-beta dimers linked head-to-head. The alpha-spectrin gene family encodes proteins with 22 spectrin repeats involved in dimer formation.
Compared to non-erythrocytic alpha spectrin, this protein forms weaker tetramer interactions, enhancing red blood cell membrane elasticity and deformability.
Mutations in this gene can lead to hereditary red blood cell disorders such as elliptocytosis type 2, pyropoikilocytosis, and spherocytic hemolytic anemia.
