Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the neurotrophin family that controls survival and differentiation of mammalian neurons. It is closely related to nerve growth factor and brain-derived neurotrophic factor. NTF3 may be involved in the maintenance of the adult nervous system and in embryonic neuronal development when expressed in the human placenta. NTF3-deficient mice display severe limb movement defects. The mature peptide is identical across mammals including human, pig, rat, and mouse.
