Target Information
HEF1 (Human Enhancer of Filamentation 1) is a multifunctional protein involved in integrin-based signaling that regulates cell motility, growth, apoptosis, and oncogenic transformation.
It belongs to the Cas family of docking proteins, substrates of focal adhesion kinase (FAK) and Src family tyrosine kinases—key targets for drug development.
HEF1 protein promotes expression of genes linked to motility and invasiveness, such as metalloproteinases, MLCK, p160ROCK, and ErbB1.
Overproduction of HEF1 mediates apoptosis in epithelial-derived cell lines (e.g., MCF7, HeLa).
Overexpression of BCAR1 (p130Cas), a related protein, has been associated with tamoxifen resistance, underscoring the role of this protein family in cancer prognosis.
