Target Information
Fructose-1,6-bisphosphate aldolase is a tetrameric glycolytic enzyme that catalyzes the reversible conversion of fructose-1,6-bisphosphate to glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate and dihydroxyacetone phosphate. Vertebrates have three aldolase isozymes (A, B, and C) distinguished by their electrophoretic and catalytic properties. These isozymes are products of related housekeeping genes with developmentally regulated expression. Aldolase A is predominant in muscle, aldolase B in liver, kidney, and intestine, and aldolase C in brain and nervous tissue. Defects in ALDOB cause hereditary fructose intolerance.
