Target Information
Endostatin induces non-uniform responses in endothelial cells, affecting proliferation, adhesion, and migration depending on cell type. It inhibits angiogenesis and tumor growth in vivo by promoting apoptosis in endothelial cells. Local delivery of endostatin reduces tumor-associated microvessel density, diameter, and functionality. Treated animals show reduced tumor cell migration and invasion. Endostatin is non-toxic, does not induce acquired drug resistance, and is considered a promising therapeutic strategy for solid tumors, including gliomas. Its anti-angiogenic activity is mediated partly by Zn²⁺ binding and elastase processing. Endostatin is expressed in elastic fibers of vessel walls and basement membranes and accumulates in amyloid plaques in Alzheimer’s disease.
