Target Information
Beta-arrestin-2 (ARRB2) is an adaptor protein of the arrestin family with N- and C-arrestin domains. It regulates heterotrimeric G protein-coupled receptor desensitization and beta2-adrenergic receptor (β2AR) function by promoting β2AR-mediated nuclear translocation of ERK. ARRB2 binds phosphorylated β2ARs, impairing their ability to activate G(S) proteins. Together with AIP4, ARRB2 acts in endosomal sorting, mediating CXCR4 degradation. It may also be involved in hormone-specific desensitization of TSH receptors. ARRB2 is a Ca²⁺-binding protein found in retinal outer segments, binding P-rhodopsin and participating in synaptic transmission in photoreceptor cells. It is widely expressed in most tissues, particularly neuronal tissues and spleen.
