Target Information
AMPK Beta 2 is a regulatory subunit of the AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK), a heterotrimeric enzyme composed of alpha (catalytic), beta, and gamma (regulatory) subunits.
AMPK acts as a key energy sensor, activated under metabolic stress to restore energy balance by phosphorylating and inactivating acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACC) and HMG-CoA reductase (HMGCR), enzymes critical in fatty acid and cholesterol biosynthesis.
The beta-2 subunit may positively regulate AMPK activity and influence enzyme localization through myristoylation and phosphorylation. It may also serve as an adaptor mediating AMPK complex assembly.
