Target Information

The heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoproteins (hnRNPs) are RNA-binding proteins that form complexes with heterogeneous nuclear RNA (hnRNA). These proteins associate with pre-mRNAs in the nucleus and influence pre-mRNA processing, mRNA metabolism, and transport.
RBMXL2 contains two RRM domains that bind RNA and shows similarity to HNRPG and RBMY proteins. It is suggested to replace HNRPG function during meiotic prophase or act as a germ cell-specific splicing regulator.
RBMXL2 primarily localizes to the nuclei of meiotic spermatocytes and is considered a candidate gene for autosomal male infertility. It belongs to the HNRPG subfamily of ubiquitously expressed hnRNPs.
