Target Information
ERK1 and ERK2 are widely expressed and involved in the regulation of meiosis, mitosis, and postmitotic functions in differentiated cells.
They are activated by various stimuli including growth factors, cytokines, viral infection, and ligands for G protein-coupled receptors.
Upon activation, Raf phosphorylates MEK1/2, which then phosphorylates ERK1/2. Activated ERKs phosphorylate cytoplasmic targets or migrate to the nucleus to activate transcription factors such as c-Fos and Elk-1.
