Target Information
Integrins are heterodimers composed of alpha and beta subunits that form noncovalently associated transmembrane glycoprotein receptors. Different alpha and beta combinations determine ligand-binding specificities. Integrins mediate cell-matrix or cell-cell adhesion and regulate gene expression and cell growth.
The integrin beta 4 subunit (CD104) serves as a receptor for laminins and commonly associates with the alpha 6 subunit, playing a critical role in invasive carcinoma biology.
Mutations in this gene are linked to epidermolysis bullosa with pyloric atresia.
Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been identified.
