Target Information

SRC is a cytoplasmic tyrosine kinase and proto-oncogene involved in the regulation of embryonic development and cell growth. It plays a key role in growth and differentiation of eukaryotic cells by associating with the cytoplasmic region of various cell surface receptors to facilitate signal transduction. SRC also contributes to cytoskeletal organization, cell cycle regulation, and apoptosis.
The SRC gene is located on chromosome 20 in humans. Its activity is regulated by phosphorylation at two tyrosine residues: Tyr416 and Tyr527. Phosphorylation at Tyr416 upregulates enzyme activity, while phosphorylation at Tyr527 decreases it. Mutations in the SRC gene may contribute to malignant progression in colon cancer. Two transcript variants encoding the same SRC protein have been identified.
