Recombinant human MCP-1 is an 8.6 kDa protein containing 76 amino acid residues, including four highly conserved cysteine residues typical of CC chemokines.

Target Information
The CCL2 gene is located on the q-arm of chromosome 17 among several cytokine genes. Cytokines are secreted proteins involved in immunoregulatory and inflammatory processes.
This cytokine is structurally related to the CXC subfamily, characterized by two cysteines separated by a single amino acid. It shows chemotactic activity for monocytes and basophils but not for neutrophils or eosinophils.
CCL2 is implicated in diseases with monocytic infiltration such as psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis, and atherosclerosis. It binds to chemokine receptors CCR2 and CCR4.
