Target Information
NDST1 is an essential bifunctional enzyme that catalyzes both the N-deacetylation and N-sulfation of glucosamine (GlcNAc) residues in heparan sulfate. It modifies the GlcNAc-GlcA disaccharide backbone to produce N-sulfated heparosan, a key intermediate in heparin biosynthesis. NDST1 determines the extent and pattern of sulfation in heparan sulfate and is required for biosynthesis of heparan sulfate that can act as L-selectin ligands, contributing to inflammatory responses.
