EEF2는 번역 신장의 GTP 의존적 리보솜 전이 단계에서 촉매 역할을 수행합니다. 이 과정에서 리보솜은 PRE 상태에서 POST 상태로 전환되며, A-site의 peptidyl-tRNA와 P-site의 deacylated tRNA가 각각 P 및 E 위치로 이동합니다. 또한 tRNA 분자, mRNA, 리보솜의 구조적 변화가 조정되어 단백질 합성이 진행됩니다.
