Target Information
Collapsin-response mediator proteins (CRMPs) are highly expressed in the developing brain, playing major roles in axonal outgrowth, neurite differentiation, and apoptosis. Their expression in regions with high synaptic remodeling, such as the cerebellum, hippocampus, and olfactory system, suggests involvement in adult brain plasticity.
CRMP-1, initially identified as a dihydro-pyrimidinase expressed exclusively in the brain, is associated with NT3-induced neurite formation and outgrowth. Its localization shifts from axonal to somatodendritic as neurons mature, indicating roles in early neuronal differentiation and later processes related to neuron survival or death.
