Target Information
Peroxisomal multifunctional enzyme type 2 is a protein encoded by the HSD17B4 gene in humans.
This bifunctional enzyme participates in the peroxisomal beta-oxidation pathway for fatty acids and catalyzes the formation of 3‑ketoacyl‑CoA intermediates from both straight‑chain and 2‑methyl‑branched‑chain fatty acids.
Defects in this gene that impair peroxisomal fatty acid beta‑oxidation cause D‑bifunctional protein deficiency (DBPD).
A pseudogene is present on chromosome 8, and multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been identified.
