Target Information
SHBG (Sex Hormone-Binding Globulin) is a steroid-binding protein secreted by the liver, regulating steroid hormone responses.
It transports androgens and estrogens in the blood, binding each steroid molecule as a dimer of identical or nearly identical monomers.
Low plasma SHBG levels are linked to obesity, metabolic syndrome, and type 2 diabetes.
Genetic polymorphisms in SHBG are associated with polycystic ovary syndrome and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
