Target Information
Synaptogyrins comprise a family of tyrosine-phosphorylated membrane proteins with two neuronal members (SYNGR1 and SYNGR3) and one ubiquitous member (SYNGR2). SYNGR1 and SYNGR3 are synaptic vesicle proteins involved in neurotransmitter release regulation, while SYNGR2 is absent from synaptic vesicles. The role of SYNGR4 remains unclear.
The SYNGR1 gene is located at chromosome 22q13, a region linked to schizophrenia, though evidence for direct association remains mixed.
