Target Information
The carboxyl terminus of hsc70-interacting protein (CHIP) interacts with both constitutive hsc70 and inducible hsp70. This 35 kDa cytoplasmic protein is highly expressed in striated muscle and various cultured tissues. CHIP binds to the carboxyl terminus of hsc70 and hsp70, decreasing ATPase activity and chaperone efficiency. It functions as an E3 ubiquitin-ligase within the ubiquitin-proteasome system through its U-box domain.
