Ribosomes are organelles that catalyze protein synthesis and consist of a small 40S subunit and a large 60S subunit. These subunits are composed of 4 RNA species and approximately 80 distinct proteins.
This gene encodes a ribosomal protein that is part of the 60S subunit and belongs to the L35AE family. It is located in the cytoplasm.
The rat homolog binds both initiator and elongator tRNAs, positioning it at the P site, or P and A sites, of the ribosome.
