Target Information
The TEK receptor tyrosine kinase is expressed almost exclusively in endothelial cells. TEK signaling is critical for endothelial cell–smooth muscle cell communication in venous morphogenesis. Defects in TEK are associated with inherited venous malformations.
Angiopoietin-1 binds to TEK and mediates signaling involved in embryonic vascular development.
Immunoblotting shows TIE2 expression increases with thyroid-stimulating hormone and cAMP-elevating agents.
Hematopoietic stem cells expressing TIE2 are quiescent, antiapoptotic, and adhere to osteoblasts in the bone marrow niche.
