Target Information
Cytochrome C is an electron transporting protein located within the intermembrane space of mitochondria, playing a critical role in oxidative phosphorylation and ATP production. Its release into the cytosol is triggered by apoptotic stimuli, where it binds apoptotic protease activating factor to activate procaspase 9. Cytosolic Cytochrome C also activates caspase 3, a key effector of apoptosis.
