Product Specific Information
- Does not react with Chicken or Xenopus.
- For IHC (PFA fixed): incubate antibody for 30 min at room temperature.
- Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires heating sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA (pH 9.0) for 45 min at 95°C, followed by cooling for 20 min at room temperature.
Target Information
Cytokeratin 18 (Keratin 18, KRT18, type I cytoskeletal 18) is a member of the acidic, low molecular weight keratin family. It forms complexes with Cytokeratin 8 and is expressed in epithelial tissues of the gastrointestinal, respiratory, and urogenital tracts, as well as endocrine, exocrine, and mesothelial cells. It is mainly found in non-squamous epithelia and is expressed in most adenocarcinomas and ductal carcinomas, but not in squamous cell carcinomas.
Hepatocellular carcinomas express only cytokeratins 8 and 18. Mutations in KRT18 are associated with cryptogenic cirrhosis. Two transcript variants encoding the same protein exist.
Cytokeratin subtype expression patterns aid in distinguishing epithelial malignancies and are valuable in tumor diagnosis, cytopathology, and flow cytometry assays.
