Target Information
Vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) is a neuroprotective factor that can stimulate or inhibit tumor cell growth depending on the cell type. The ADNP gene encodes a protein upregulated by VIP, potentially mediating its stimulatory effects on certain tumor cells. The protein includes one homeobox and nine zinc finger domains, suggesting a role as a transcription factor. It is also upregulated in normal proliferative tissues and may enhance cell viability by modulating p53 activity. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been reported.
