This antibody detects endogenous levels of total PTPN22.

Target Information

The protein tyrosine phosphatase PTPN22 (also known as PTP22, LYP, PEP, formerly PTPN8) is a genetic variant associated with increased risk of autoimmune diseases such as type 1 diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis.
A missense SNP in PTPN22 encodes a hematopoietic-specific phosphatase (Lyp). The risk allele, found in about 17% of Caucasian individuals and 28% of those with rheumatoid arthritis, is thought to disrupt the P1 proline-rich motif crucial for interaction with the SH3 domain of CSK. This alteration may affect normal T cell regulatory functions.
The CSK–PTPN22 interaction is highly specific, suggesting that PTPN22 may act as an effector or regulator of CSK in T cells and other hematopoietic cells.
