BACH1.3은 cap’n’collar 타입의 basic region leucine zipper factor (CNC-bZip) 패밀리에 속하는 전사 인자입니다.
이 단백질은 broad complex, tramtrack, bric-a-brac/poxvirus 및 zinc finger (BTB/POZ) 도메인을 포함하며, 이는 CNC-bZip 패밀리 내에서 비전형적입니다.
BTB/POZ 도메인은 단백질 간 상호작용과 homo/hetero oligomer 형성을 촉진합니다.
BACH1이 MafK와 이합체를 형성하면 Maf recognition element (MARE)에 대한 억제 인자로 작용하여 전사가 억제됩니다.
이 유전자는 여러 가지 대체 스플라이싱 전사 변이를 가지며, C21orf41 유전자의 엑손과 일부 중첩되어 있으나, C21orf41은 단백질을 암호화하지 않습니다.
