Target Information
The protein encoded by SC35 is a member of the serine/arginine (SR)-rich family of pre-mRNA splicing factors, which are components of the spliceosome. Each factor contains an RNA recognition motif (RRM) for RNA binding and an RS domain for protein interactions. The RS domain, rich in serine and arginine residues, mediates interaction between SR splicing factors.
SR proteins are critical for mRNA splicing and are also involved in mRNA export from the nucleus and translation. Two transcript variants encoding the same protein and one non-coding variant have been identified for SC35. A pseudogene of SC35 is located on chromosome 11.
