Target Information

Guanylyl cyclases catalyze the production of cGMP from GTP and are classified as soluble or membrane forms. The membrane guanylyl cyclases (A–F) are cell-surface receptors with an extracellular ligand-binding domain, a single membrane-spanning domain, and an intracellular region containing a protein kinase-like domain and a cyclase catalytic domain.
GC-A and GC-B serve as receptors for natriuretic peptides, also known as atrial natriuretic peptide receptor A and type B.
NPR1 encodes a membrane-bound guanylate cyclase that acts as the receptor for both atrial and brain natriuretic peptides (ANP and BNP). NPR3 encodes a related protein with only the ligand-binding and short cytoplasmic domains.
