Target Information
Transthyretin (TTR), also known as prealbumin, is a plasma protein that functions as a transporter of thyroxine and retinol-binding protein. It is primarily produced in the liver and secreted into the plasma. TTR accounts for approximately 25% of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) protein, suggesting selective transport across the blood-CSF barrier or local synthesis within the central nervous system. Transthyretin is found in neuritic plaques, neurofibrillary tangles, and microangiopathic lesions of senile cerebral amyloid. Over 40 mutations in the TTR gene have been reported to be associated with amyloid deposition.
