Glutamate-cysteine ligase (gamma-glutamylcysteine synthetase)는 글루타티온 합성의 첫 번째 속도 제한 효소로, 두 개의 서브유닛(무거운 촉매 서브유닛과 가벼운 조절 서브유닛)으로 구성됩니다. 이 유전자는 촉매 서브유닛을 암호화하며, 조절 서브유닛은 염색체 1p22-p21의 다른 유전자에서 유래합니다. 해당 유전자 변이는 γ-glutamylcysteine synthetase 결핍으로 인한 용혈성 빈혈 및 심근경색 감수성과 관련이 있습니다.
